Crown Prince Haakon becomes goodwill ambassador for the One Ocean Expedition

His Royal Highness Crown Prince Haakon of Norway has agreed to become a goodwill ambassador for Statsraad Lehmkuhl's next major expedition, the One Ocean Expedition 2025-2026.

Crown Prince Haakon has a longstanding commitment to environmental protection and sustainability.

– “Human life and the future of the planet depend on us taking care of the ocean,” says Crown Prince Haakon.

– “I hope the One Ocean Expedition 2025-2026 will contribute to a major international commitment to improving the health of the ocean.”

The expedition will sail under the UN flag as an official representative of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development. The aim is to raise awareness and share knowledge about the major challenges facing the ocean.

Through research activities, knowledge dissemination and political dialogue, the expedition aims to inspire global commitment to a sustainable ocean.

“We are incredibly proud and grateful that Crown Prince Haakon has chosen to become a goodwill ambassador for the One Ocean Expedition,” says Haakon Vatle, expedition leader and CEO of the Statsraad Lehmkuhl Foundation.

“His commitment and support is a strong motivator for our further work and contributes greatly to our reaching out with our message to a global audience,” Vatle adds.

One Ocean Expedition will visit 20 different ports in Europe, the USA, and Central and South America. One of the most exciting aspects is the plan to follow in Roald Amundsen’s footsteps and sail through the legendary and very challenging Northwest Passage in the Arctic on the journey from the Atlantic to the Pacific.

Building on the Success of the Previous Expedition
The upcoming expedition in 2025 builds on the success of the previous one, the 20-month One Ocean Expedition 2021-2023. It was made possible by a strong collaboration between leading marine research and education institutions, public administration, and the private sector. The same will apply to One Ocean Expedition 2025-2026.
